About
If wonky funk, grooving bass lines & jammed out hip/trip-hop is your thing then look no further than Midlands based DJ and Promoter Steve Gibson, a man with a penchant for versatile musical tastes and a repertoire of funk laden tunes to match. Dedicated and hardworking, Steve entered club land like many others do, by starting his own night; cheap|biscuit. After cutting his teeth working for the legendary Chibuku Shake Shake club night in Liverpool, brimming with ideas, he returned to the Midlands to forge his own path. The night has proved to be a catalyst for a stream of regular gigs for Steve, the length and breadth of the UK ever since it’s inception in 2007.
Highlights so far include winning a set at the O2 Wireless Festival, a collaboration and residency with acclaimed live music night ‘Stereotype’ as well as working alongside Darran Pownall a like-minded DJ with a passion for soulful music. The pair have injected some much needed life into the Midlands scene with parties covering the full spectrum from Disco and Latin to Dub and Broken Beat. This positive and hardworking attitude led to more opportunity.
In summer 2007 Steve was asked to come on board Leicester based rave institution Shivoo, with the legendary Midlands based promoters happy to welcome Steve into their stable of quality DJ talent. Since then Steve has appeared on bills alongside Tom Middleton, Scratch Perverts, Sinden & Herve, Annie Mac, Atomic Hooligan, Switch, A-Skillz, Nic Corelli, A-Trak & Fake Blood to name but a few! Summer 2009 culminated in a jaunt to the White Isle where Steve and the Shivoo residents hosted a room for Ibiza Rocks spin-off; Reclaim the Dancefloor at Eden Nightclub. He also managed to squeeze in a gig at Orange Corner on his trip.
As well as this Steve is also working on a podcast radio show under the cheap|biscuit moniker which is set to be a very tongue in cheek affair, and show that after all the hype and seriousness there can be a sense of humour in dance music! 2009 can only get better after starting the year warming up for Luke Unabomber and upcoming gigs with Trusme and Motor City Drum Ensemble!
